Sherrard Roe Sponsors the Tennessee Innocence Project’s Journey to Justice

December 4, 2024   |   Aimee Moore

Sherrard Roe Voigt & Harbison was pleased to sponsor the Tennessee Innocence Project’s (TIP’s) sixth annual Journey to Justice event on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

The event, a celebration honoring TIP exonerees, featured stories of innocent Tennesseans and their journeys to justice along with their paths to exoneration and the many steps along the way. The evening included dinner, a live auction and a feature presentation by exoneree Artis Whitehead.

TIP’s mission is to “free innocent people wrongfully convicted of crimes they did not commit, to raise awareness of the pressing issue, and to drive policy reforms that prevent future wrongful convictions.” They achieve this through “investigating and litigating claims of actual innocence to secure exonerations for those wrongfully imprisoned in Tennessee, training law students and attorneys on litigating innocence cases and preventing future wrongful convictions, and driving policy reforms that enable the discovery of wrongful convictions and provide remedies for those who are wrongfully convicted.” In the six years since TIP’s founding, they have secured seven exonerations, accounting for a total of 194 years lost by innocent individuals.

The firm has a proud history of partnering with TIP on significant civil rights and pro bono cases and is steadfast in its dedication to serving people in underserved and underrepresented groups. For more information on the Tennessee Innocence Project, please visit https://www.tninnocence.org.
